Heritage enjoyment and education

The evidences of vanished civilizations, the beauties coming to us from the past, the charm of the  ancient, are elements that we constantly find all around us. It's very nice to enjoy them, but often we realize that doing this in the best way needs a correct communication to be given.

Cultural heritage is formed by "evidences having the value of civilization"; that means realities, tangible or intangible, that claim in the present the culture - understood in any sense, from artistic productions to anthropological heirs - of past generations.

As such, they guide a process of re-appropriation of a collective memory that can become an individual, and vice versa.

This is an educational action: in fact, "monument" derives from Latin verb monere, or teach by the memory, the witness.

To help with this, in every Superintendences are working an Educational Service of the Museum and the Territory. It is an office responsible for the content of cultural heritage mediation, i.e. to provide tools that help to understand it, in order to let everybody enjoy it.

Understanding means knowing better, and understanding allows a fuller fruition. Certainly, the field of archaeology has special features where communication and pedagogy are required to take them into account. On this, some reflections are conducted since some time.
